Kasetsart University or KU is the first agricultural university and the third oldest university in Thailand. It was established on February 2, 1943, with the primary aims in promoting subjects related to agricultural science.
The University has revised its curricula and expanded the subject areas to cover science, arts, social sciences, humanities, education, engineering, and architecture. Recently, the University made an attempt to include medicine and health science. Kasetsart University has established seven campuses in various regions of Thailand. At present, the number of enrolled students at all levels of study exceeds 35,000.
Kasetsart University is one of the best IT campus in Thailand. KU has more than 10 Gbps link to Uninet, the main university network provider. In addition, KU has invested in building a strong computing and IT infrastructure for many years. Currently, KU has a fiber optics based gigabit campus network that link all main campus facilities together. KU is among a few universities that fully covered with WIFI network campus wide.
HPC and Grid has been used by KU for many years. In 1999, KU build a 72 nodes PIRUN beowulf cluster which become a fastest computing system at that time. In 2002 , KU build a 32 nodes 64 processors cluster system called Meaka. This cluster becomes the fastest computing system in Thailand again. Currently, KU is a location of Thai National Grid Center which houses TERA server. This 4.3 Teraflops cluster system is the first teraflops computig system ever built in Thailand.
