Activities and collaborations

High level scientific activity goes on at the Centre for International collaborations in the areas of high energy physics experiments at large accelerators in other parts of the world. Our scientists and engineers construct large experimental equipment for such experiments. Those experiments are also used extensively by the international scientific community. Our scientists have earned prestige both in the experimental as well as theoretical research in the field of Quark Gluon Plasma (QGP) on the international scene. The Centre has also developed frontline computational facilities to carry out research and development in the areas such as condensed matter, materials, chemistry and biophysics. Exploration and recovery of helium gas from hot spring emanations and earthquake prediction utilizing related observations is another important area in which the Centre is actively engaged.

VECC is the Nodal Centre of ERNET for the eastern and northeastern part of the country.

VECC is a Tier II Centre for the ALICE Experiment of Large Hadron Collider at CERN. VECC was a participant of the EU-India grid project and is presently participating in the EU-IndiaGrid2 project. It is also participating in International collaborations like LHC experiments at CERN, STAR at BNL etc. Moreover it has Institution level collaborations with TRIUMF of Canada, KEK & RIKEN of Japan, FERMILAB of USA, FAIR project of Germany. It has many collaborations with other Institutions in India. VECC is a Constituent Institution (CI) of the Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI), a deemed to be University. VECC has 577 numbers of employees, including 193 numbers of Scientific Officers / Engineers.
