GridGuide : ATLAS (Nikhef)

ATLAS

Nikhef is a Tier-1 site for ATLAS.

The ATLAS experiment will produce millions of gigabytes of data per year in the quest to answer one of the most elusive scientific questions of our times: where is the Higgs boson? To get a handle on all this data, it is distributed world-wide among a selected few tier-1 sites, who each receive a large portion of the data.

Nikhef also built several of the muon detectors that form the outer layers of the experiment.

A special project is the development of the world-wide distributed trigger for ATLAS; by running the event trigger on the grid, there is more capacity to find interesting events and this increases the chances of finding the Higgs boson.
